The monastery’s additional cultural significance is result of the story of Gautam Buddha’s visit to Namo Buddha. It is believed Gautam Buddhaconducted three tours around the stupa and renamed the area in tribute to a legend of a prince who was buried under the stupa over 6000 years ago.
